Week 2.2

For homework we continued the exercises combining random words with our theme to generate original concepts- some of the more successful of these are shown below. In class on Thursday we had a one on one with a teacher then continued conceptualising rough sketches in our workbooks. My feedback on my work was relatively positive, it seems my ideas are on the right track and I just need to continue developing these ideas into refined concepts that are presentable for the formative assessment next Monday. I also did some research on some general statistics after class, and began doing some rough designs around this, although a lot of these did convey their point relatively successfully, I personally found them quite boring and not as eye-catching and interesting as my previous concepts generated through using random words. I will develop a few of these further however I'm thinking that perhaps I should look at combining these with my other concepts to create a more in-depth design? ...

Week 2.1

This week I really began focusing on my research, particularly in examples of other designers work on the same issue. Some of these examples I've added below- (annotated notes on these are in my physical workbook.) From this research I really began to find myself drawn to the simplicity and wit of many of the posters. I like most the ones that clearly show the message yet display it in an intelligent and eye-catching way. This sort of clear and defined style with a really powerful and funny/witty/smart message behind it really appeal to me as an approach to take towards my own work In class we did some exercises with combining random words with our theme to generate original ideas and images that we may not otherwise have thought of. I won't add these here as its just doubling up with what's in my physical workbook. However on reflection of these I've found that the most successful of these concepts are the ones that had some sort of pun or irony in the message ...

Week One

As I was away for the first class, Thursday was my introduction to this course. In class we went over some of the different topics and subtopics around inequality in New Zealand. It was pretty obvious for me that focusing on gender equality will resonate with me the most due to my personal experiences of this. So far I'm still not sure what or if there is a subtopic within gender that I would like to further focus on, however I hope to discover this in the next few weeks through research and experimentation.
